mission statement

Bored senseless by Toronto, M. and E. found themselves stranded yet again in another coffee shop with nothing to do, forced to consider again those activities people without hobbies engage in in order to give their lives a touch of entertainment or a semblance of fulfillment (going shopping, going to the movies, or just falling over dead of boredom). M. and E. have had enough of boredom and the Project is the solution. This blog marks the beginning of the passtime Project and will chronicle the attempts of M. and E. in their endeavour to undertake as many new hobbies as possible within the next year.

Possible hobby ideas to undertake:
beading, Scrabble, cake decorating, flower arranging, wine tasting, creative poetry writing, latte foam pouring, kickboxing, bird watching, artsy photography, choral singing, weightlifting and power shake drinking concurrently, sculpture, celebrity stalking, Twitter, elaborate cocktail mixing, wine tasting, learning Portugese, angst, meditation, stamp collecting, coin collecting, amateur sleuthing, painting, taking over the world, gardening, art criticism, comic books, pick-up artistry, ninjitsu, being angry.
(NOTE: While this list may be subject to editing at any time, ninjitsu and amateur sleuthing may never be removed from it altogether).

The rules of the game

1.  Defining the terms: Merriam-Webster defines "pastime" as "something that amuses and serves to make time pass agreeably." We understand this word to be synonymous with "hobby," a pursuit outside one's regular occupation engaged in especially for relaxation.

2. Schedule of hobby-trying: One new hobby will be attempted at least once per fortnight or fourteen (14) day period. Two hours must be devoted to this new hobby over the course of this fourteen (14) day period.

3. Finances: No more than fifteen dollars ($15) may be spent on any hobby. Any expenditure beyond this means that the hobby is too expensive for us poor students to undertake.

4. Recording: Each hobby "experience" will be recorded on this blog. Photographic journalism is recommended.
